Tom and Dianne Churbock

The island area in front of Tom’s and Diane’s home was the first landscape install we ever did. We weren’t actually offering installs at the time, but when Tom came to us with a design request, we jumped on the opportunity.

In the years since, the Churbocks planted many Bloomfield plants themselves in the beds against the front of the house.

The Churbock’s front yard island is an example of the earliest version of our work. The Bloomfield landscaping style has evolved significantly in the years since. Many years after the initial work, in summer 2022, the Churbocks came to Bloomfield Nursery for a makeover of their backyard.

The key problem they were facing was commotion from traffic through the fast-food drive-through next door. A tall fence was installed to block the drive-through, and the Churbocks wanted a landscape plan that would soften and blend the fence into the background.

Using boulders Tom had collected, we were able to add some fun extras, like the layered terrace feature along the rear fence. Over time, the shrubs along the fenceline should grow big enough to obscure the hard lines of the fence, giving the Churbocks’ backyard a cozy, intimate feel.

Key Features and Concerns

  • Found boulders incorporated into the design for extra character and depth
  • Balancing the need for privacy with the desire to keep the fence from visually dominating the backyard

Set your home apart with a stunning, low-maintenance landscape.
